Meet The Action Petz Team!
Our team is composed by eight wonderful individuals that despite coming from different paths, countries and backgrounds share a single passion… DOGS! We love them, we are mad about them and go out of our way to make the time they share with us an enjoyable one. We’re the type of people that will probably ask to pet your dog on the street, the ones that can’t contemplate a fun day without including the dog and feel impotent when not just a dog, but any animal experiences abuse and cruelty. We’re not afraid of hair, slobber, wees or poops; we love interacting with each pooch at the park, getting to know them better, making a fuss and sometimes sneaking in a little treat (always with your permission!) In short: we have the best job in the world because we love and believe in what we do, and that reflects in our service.
We all are fully prepared to provide you with top-notch service and to make each and one of your visits a five star one. Besides your satisfaction, your dog’s safety and enjoyment is our first priority; this is why we all have a good understanding on canine behaviour and we are also fully trained in doggy first aid.
Please feel free to contact us anytime, we are always happy to hear from you. Customer feedback is what keep us going and becoming better each day.
The Action Petz Team.
Shelley Redding | Owner/Director
Hi there, my name is Shelley; I am the founder of Action Petz Limited. I’ve had a successful career to date, in the early days working in hospitality and retail, then later in the field of health. I have owned several businesses previously and ever since I can remember I have wanted to combine my love for animals and my entrepreneurial spirit. I have lifelong experience in animal handling and also care, compassion and drive by the bucket load!
I see my role in Action Petz as the engine behind the company, driving it forward and ensuring that we never lose sight of where and why this venture was started. The starting point for Action Petz came from one single question… How can I make life better for animals? That question opened the flood gates and I knew at that point I would never look back. The future success of Action Petz will be owed to sincerity and unwavering belief in its concept.
Jane Hanford | Senior Partner
Hi, my name is Jane, I pride myself in exemplary customer service and satisfaction. I am very much a people person and I have had a very successful career to date working at senior management level in various fields including hospitality.
My involvement in Action Petz in simplistic terms is to ensure that the company is the very best it can be. Top of my list is to be a company leader that is trusted, respected and well known for implementing staff training to the highest level. My vision for Action Petz is to create an outstanding place of work for staff, a caring and safe place for your pet and an atmosphere for you the customer that is so warm and welcoming that you want to come back time and time again. I operate an open door policy and I’m here to oversee the smooth running of Action Petz. You will find me in the cafe and main park areas making sure that all of our customers are having a fantastic time.
Rhian Robinson | Park Manager
My name’s Rhian and I took over as Centre Manager in January 2015. Immediately after I met Shelley, I knew I had to be a part of her team – such an inspirational woman with tremendous vision and passion.
I couldn’t believe my luck when Shelley offered me a position at Action Petz - a job where I could mix my passion and enthusiasm for excellent customer service delivery with my love of dogs and a desire to improve their welfare.
Previously I have enjoyed a 25 year career in the legal environment at senior operational management level. At the time of leaving the legal world, I had responsibility for the management of 150 staff at the Cardiff branch of a National firm of lawyers. In addition, I represented the branch at the monthly Board meetings.
In October 2012 I made a decision to take a break from my career to spend some time with my husband who was in ill health. During my career break I got involved with Hope Rescue (a co-ordinating dog rescue) as a Fosterer and fund raiser. I am currently on foster No. 8, having only failed with one of these - I just couldn’t bring myself to part with a naughty Beagle cross. It’s so rewarding watching my fosters leave for their forever sofas, having overcome many of the issues that they had when they first arrived with me. My foster dogs share the home with Stan (my 4 year old terrier), Colin (the failed foster), Brian (my husband) and Bethan and Sam (my 19 year old twins).
Wilf Wilford | Day Care Manager
Hello, my name is Wilf And I’m the Doggy Daycare Manager here at the centre. I spent most of my working life with the Ministry of Defence handling and caring for Military working dogs. Having moved to Cardiff to become part of the amazing Action Petz team I now spend my days surrounded by your wonderful furry friends ensuring they have a safe, fun stay and that they go home tired and happy.
I make sure our guests have a well-structured day and that I meet all of their individual needs, with constant supervision, as Action Petz dogs are not crated but allowed to play and socialise.
I can normally be found in Daycare, the main park or outside in the yard with my fluffy friends in tow, utilising my professionalism and experience to make certain your dog has the best time possible without you, and is always eager to visit me again.
Ally | Centre Assistant
Hi, I’m Ally and I have been on the Action Petz team since opening week. My flexible approach to work has given me twenty plus years of experience in varied roles up to management level.
I studied Fine Art at University, obtaining a Masters Degree from Cardiff School of Art. To fund my education I fell into a career rut, mainly in retail and customer care.
A natural born love of all animals gave me an unfulfilled burning ambition for a career in the Animal Care sector. So when one of life’s doors closed through redundancy, I forced open another to re-train in pursuit of my dream job.
In the years since, I have had work placements at Cardiff Dogs Home and Valley Vets, stepping up the ladder I expanded my skills into learning the art of dog grooming. Continuing in a busy grooming salon, expanding with grooming, reception and vet nursing assisting in both Petherton Vets and Park Vets, I have met every challenge with determination and glee.
I absolutely adore dogs, having had two rescues in the past and also another mixed breed bought from a puppy, they continue to surprise, thrill, entertain and humble me.
After a few years without a canine companion I am now very proud to have been “adopted” by my young, little terrier dude Oska, since meeting him as a stray in Cardiff Dogs Home last summer. You will find us both happily entertaining the Day Care care dogs at Action Petz every weekday morning. Having both had false starts along our paths, at Action Petz we’ve come together, finally “livin the dream”!
Anthony | Centre Assistant
Hi! My name is Anthony Hatch. I have been working at Action Petz since our opening and haven’t looked back. This place is amazing, not only because I have job I truly enjoy, but also because the customers (humans and doggies) and the staff are always a pleasure to have around. Also, I love it bringing my three dogs to work with me: Buddy, Beau and Pebbles (which is a rescue from Dogs Trust).
Before joining this company I worked in the construction sector as a plasterer, however, I always wanted to work with dogs; that’s why when the Action Petz opportunity came along I jumped at it in a heartbeat.
My passion for dogs comes from a very young age: my first experience of having a dog was when I was about three years old and I had a German Shepherd, I have loved dogs since then.
Working at Action Petz is giving me the opportunity to have the job I always wanted whilst I keep developing my canine knowledge and customer service skills. I couldn’t ask for more.
Jenny | Centre Assistant
Hello! My name is Jenny, I am one of the latest members to join the Action Petz team… and I am loving it! I have owned and fostered dogs since I can remember, so being covered in hair and slobber definitely feels natural to me. I have been coming to the park as a customer since it opened with Hector, my little whippet. After a few months of regular visits I started to love this place so much that I jumped at the first opportunity to work here.
Despite my background being mainly in customer service, I believe my role in the park allows me to combine my enthusiasm with outstanding service and my love for dogs to offer you, the customer, an unforgettable, friendly and professional experience.
When visiting the park you may be able to find me behind the front desk, the indoor park or at the cafe; sometimes I will be lending a hand in day care and some days I will be hiding behind the computer updating our social media and this website. Wherever you find me, you can make sure I am doing my very best to make you and your pooch to have a fantastic experience!
Alex | Centre Assistant
Hello! My name is Alex, I am the youngest member of the team currently in my final year at St. Teilo’s Church in Wales High School studying for my GCSE’s. As some of my coworkers, I came to Action Petz on its launch day as a customer with my Border Collie Lacey who is 1 year old.
I am the latest member to join the Action Petz team and I am really enjoying it. I have grown up with dogs all my life and I adore them, so being given the opportunity to work with them is my idea of a dream job. I completed my my work experience here at Action Petz for a week and realised how much I enjoyed working with the dogs and the team. After that, I went on to do voluntary work here and it wasn’t too long after I started when I got offered a job, and of course, I couldn’t say no.
I have come to realise from my time at Action Petz that I would like to make a carer of working with dogs, I am hoping to go further in that direction whilst here.
If you are at the park you will probably find me monitoring either the indoor or the outdoor area, also I do help out on the front desk and in the cafe.
I look forward meeting you and your dogs for a fun time at Action Petz, I know you will have a wonderful experience.
